Westinghouse Electric Company, one of the most influential names in the global nuclear power industry, has officially moved closer to becoming a publicly traded company after submitting a draft registration statement for an initial public offering (IPO) to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The company announced that it had filed a confidential S-1 registration statement related to a proposed offering of common stock. While the number of shares and expected price range have not yet been determined, Westinghouse stated that the final IPO structure will depend on market conditions and other factors.

Westinghouse provided the S2W naval reactor for the first U.S. nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, in 1955.
