Beijing – According to information from the China National Intellectual Property Administration, Schneider Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. has recently been granted a patent for an “Electricity Meter” (Authorization Publication No. CN224163729U), with the application filed in May 2025. The patent introduces a new technical solution for electricity meter design and functionality, aiming to improve management efficiency and operational convenience in power systems.
The patent abstract describes that the electricity meter comprises a detection unit, switch unit, test power supply, and control unit. The detection unit is electrically coupled to an external current transformer via input terminals; the switch unit can transition from an off state to an on state when the output voltage of the detection unit is zero; the test power supply is coupled to the switch unit; and the control unit generates an indication signal based on the detection unit’s output voltage to display the connection status between the current transformer and the electricity meter.
The key advantage of this design is that the connection status can be determined automatically through the indication signal, eliminating the need for manual inspection and significantly improving work efficiency. Industry experts note that this patent has the potential to facilitate power system operations and offers promising applications in smart metering and automated management.
