ABB Launches Ethernet-APL Enabled CoriolisMaster Mass Flow Meter

Time:2026-05-07 Browse: 0

Zurich, Switzerland — ABB has introduced the Ethernet-APL CoriolisMaster mass flow meter, marking the integration of advanced Ethernet-APL technology across its flow measurement portfolio. This innovation opens a new chapter for high-speed process data communication in key industries, including chemical, oil & gas, power, and water treatment, empowering manufacturers to enhance operational efficiency.

High-Precision, Multi-Variable Measurement

The CoriolisMaster directly measures mass flow, density, and temperature of fluid media within a compact device, enabling high-accuracy, multi-variable measurement in a single instrument. With Ethernet-APL integration, the flow meter can seamlessly connect to control systems and interoperate with other plant instruments, providing high-speed channels for process data, configuration, and diagnostic information.

This upgrade supports real-time data-driven decision-making and predictive maintenance, helping to minimize operational errors and reduce downtime. Together with ABB’s previously Ethernet-APL enabled ProcessMaster, VortexMaster, and SwirlMaster series, the CoriolisMaster completes ABB’s portfolio of flow meters equipped with this next-generation communication technology.

Ethernet-APL: Unlocking Digital Transformation

Muboya Mu, Global President of ABB Measurement & Analytics, stated:
"Integrating flow measurement instruments with Ethernet-APL is a key step in enabling industrial digital transformation. Ethernet offers tremendous potential to improve productivity, efficiency, and flexibility. With Ethernet-APL, we can now help customers achieve smarter diagnostics, simpler commissioning, higher operational reliability, and better operational decisions."

Although Ethernet is widely used in industrial applications, its adoption in process industries has been limited due to safety, cost, and cable length constraints. Ethernet-APL overcomes these challenges, supporting data rates up to 10 Mbps over shielded twisted-pair cables, with simultaneous safe transmission of power and data up to 1,000 meters. The technology natively integrates intrinsic safety features, limiting voltage and current to eliminate spark risks, making it deployable in hazardous environments.

Looking Ahead

ABB plans to expand Ethernet-APL integration to additional field instruments, including pressure and temperature sensors. By continuously enriching its Ethernet-APL enabled instrument portfolio, ABB empowers industrial customers to harness the full potential of Ethernet communication for smarter, safer, and more efficient operations.
