According to the China National Intellectual Property Administration, ABB Switzerland Ltd. has filed a patent titled “Current Transformer and Switchgear Incorporating the Same”, published under application number CN121662568A, with the original filing date in September 2024.
The patent discloses a current transformer and a switchgear incorporating it, designed to reduce the number of components and lower production costs. The current transformer comprises:
A cast-molded transformer body (1),
A current conversion assembly (2) embedded within the transformer body, and
A primary conductor (3) with a first end (31) and a second end (32).
Either end of the primary conductor can serve as the transformer’s incoming terminal, with the other as the outgoing terminal. Notably, the first end is configured as a stationary contact of the transformer. By using the transformer terminals as stationary contacts, the design eliminates the separate conductors and stationary contacts required in conventional technology, reducing component count and lowering costs.
In addition, the current transformer integrates a temperature measurement device, enabling more precise monitoring of the moving contacts and associated electrical components, as well as external elements such as busbar cables or copper bars. This innovation enhances operational safety and reliability while simplifying switchgear assembly.
