ABB Fidas24 Gas Analyzer Achieves CSA Certification for Hazardous Areas in the U.S. and Canada

Time:2026-05-12 Browse: 0

  • ABB Fidas24 gas analyzer now CSA-certified for use in hazardous industrial environments in the U.S. and Canada

  • Expands ABB’s existing European and international certification portfolio

  • Demonstrates ABB’s commitment to delivering safe, compliant, and reliable solutions for industries with stringent safety requirements

ABB’s Fidas24 gas analyzer, part of the AO2000 gas analyzer series, has obtained CSA certification, enabling its use in hazardous industrial environments across the U.S. and Canada. The certification, issued by the CSA Group, an authoritative standardization body recognized in both countries, confirms the analyzer’s suitability for industries with potentially explosive atmospheres, such as oil & gas, petrochemical, and chemical sectors.

Fidas24 is a flame ionization detector (FID) that measures total hydrocarbon (THC) content to optimize processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and safeguard personnel and assets. The device operates by combusting sample gas in a hydrogen flame and measuring the resulting ion current. With a compact design and robust Ex-p positive-pressure explosion-proof enclosure, Fidas24 meets European ATEX and international IECEx standards, making it suitable for areas with explosive gases (Zones 1 and 2) or combustible dust (Zones 21 and 22).

Fabrice Spriestersbach, Product Manager of ABB Measurement & Analytics, stated:
"CSA certification of Fidas24 further demonstrates our commitment to providing safe and reliable solutions. We can now offer compliant gas analyzers for hazardous areas in North America, while maintaining Fidas24’s hallmark accuracy, user-friendliness, and ease of installation."

Key Safety and Operational Features

  • Operator-Centric Design: Supports full remote operation via HMI over Ethernet, reducing the need for personnel to enter hazardous areas.

  • Smart Maintenance: When the system raises an alarm or requires service, operators can use ABB’s My Measurement Assistant+ to scan a dynamic QR code, generating AI-assisted diagnostic reports. This approach resolves up to 80% of technical support issues within minutes and improves first-time repair rates by up to 50%, whether scanned on-site via HMI or remotely—without requiring expensive explosion-proof smartphones.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Continuous THC monitoring helps customers meet U.S. EPA and Canadian environmental authority regulations, minimizing VOC emissions and their impact on human health and the environment. The analyzer has a response time under 1.5 seconds, enabling immediate detection of emission peaks for precise reporting and process optimization.

Operational Efficiency and Ease of Use

  • Uses existing plant instrument air for gas purging, reducing nitrogen procurement, maintenance, and operational costs.

  • Quick installation: Compact and pre-configured for rapid deployment without additional system integration.

  • Automatic Calibration: Equipped with automated calibration functionality via external valves connected to test gas cylinders, ensuring continued measurement accuracy.

ABB’s Automation Business provides automation, electrification, and digital solutions for industrial operations, serving a wide range of sectors from energy, water, and materials supply to product manufacturing and logistics. The division employs roughly 26,000 professionals globally, delivering advanced technology and services that help customers in process, hybrid, and marine industries operate leaner, cleaner, and safer.
