ABB Launches High-Efficiency Proteus Power Conversion Solution for Solar and Energy Storage Systems

MUNICH, Germany, June 2026 — ABB has introduced its latest Proteus power conversion product portfolio designed for large-scale photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS), addressing the increasing global demand for efficient and reliable grid integration solutions as renewable energy deployment accelerates worldwide.
As global power grids face rising constraints and renewable generation expands rapidly, ABB’s new Proteus solution aims to enhance energy efficiency, grid stability, and system reliability for utilities, independent power producers, and renewable energy developers.
According to projections from the International Energy Agency (IEA), large-scale renewable power generation is expected to grow by approximately 60% over the next four years, significantly increasing the need for advanced power conversion and grid-forming technologies.
High-Efficiency Power Conversion Up to 99.45%
ABB’s Proteus portfolio includes PV inverters, battery energy storage converters, and integrated AC booster and control systems. The platform achieves conversion efficiencies of up to 99.45%, enabling maximum energy yield and improved system performance.
The solution also delivers ultra-clean power output with total harmonic distortion (THDi) below 0.7%, helping reduce electrical stress on equipment and extend overall system lifespan.
To ensure long-term operational stability, the Proteus system integrates hybrid liquid and air cooling technology, combined with a compact architecture that reduces installation complexity, transportation costs, and on-site assembly efforts. The redesigned thermal management system and reinforced mechanical structure further improve durability across diverse operating environments.
Advanced BESS Capabilities for Grid Stability
With the increasing penetration of renewable energy sources introducing greater grid instability, energy storage systems play a critical role in balancing supply and demand and maintaining grid reliability.
ABB’s Proteus BESS solution features bi-directional power conversion systems and advanced control technology with grid-forming capability and black start functionality. The platform is designed to support multiple battery technologies, making it suitable for large-scale energy storage projects requiring flexible and reliable integration.

ABB will showcase the new Proteus PV inverter at the Intersolar Europe 2026 exhibition, held in Munich from June 22 to June 25, at booth B3.250.
