Schneider Electric has officially commissioned the first phase of its Xiamen Xiang’an Industrial Park in Fujian Province, China, marking a significant expansion of its global medium voltage electrical equipment manufacturing capabilities. The commissioning ceremony was held on October 28, 2026, alongside the groundbreaking of Phase II of the Xiamen Torch Electric Power and Electrical Industrial Park.
Described as Schneider Electric’s largest medium voltage equipment manufacturing base worldwide, the new industrial facility covers approximately 110,000 square meters. It integrates an R&D and technology center, smart manufacturing facilities, and a service training center, creating an integrated platform for product development, industrial production, and technical support.
The project represents another important step in Schneider Electric’s long-term investment in China and its strategy to strengthen local manufacturing, innovation, and supply chain capabilities.

A major feature of the new Xiamen facility is its advanced manufacturing infrastructure for customized medium voltage electrical equipment.
The industrial park includes flexible production lines for customized medium voltage switchgear, advanced sheet metal processing workshops, and automated copper busbar production lines. It is also equipped with intelligent manufacturing and inspection systems designed to improve production efficiency, manufacturing consistency, and product quality.
According to published project information, the first-phase facility incorporates an automated flexible production line for air-insulated switchgear (AIS). Robotics, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), AI-assisted decision-making, and a proprietary Manufacturing Execution System (MES) work together to coordinate production activities and material handling.
The production system supports multiple switchgear configurations, enabling faster product changeovers and more flexible manufacturing operations. This is particularly important for medium voltage equipment manufacturers serving customers with different electrical distribution requirements and project specifications.
The gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) production line also features specialized manufacturing and inspection processes. Critical gas tank assembly is performed in a controlled environment with regulated temperature, humidity, and dust levels. Precision helium mass spectrometry leak detection and automated high-voltage testing systems are used to support product quality and operational reliability.
These manufacturing capabilities are relevant to electrical infrastructure projects where equipment reliability, insulation performance, and consistent manufacturing quality are essential.
The expansion comes at a time when demand for reliable medium voltage power distribution equipment continues to grow across multiple industrial sectors.
Modern power infrastructure requires dependable electrical distribution systems to support manufacturing facilities, renewable energy installations, data centers, and other critical infrastructure.
Medium voltage switchgear plays an essential role in these applications by controlling, protecting, and isolating electrical circuits within distribution networks.
With its upgraded manufacturing capabilities, the Xiamen industrial park is positioned to support demand for customized medium voltage switchgear and related electrical components. Its products are expected to serve applications involving new power systems, AI data centers, semiconductor facilities, and other industrial infrastructure.
The facility will also strengthen Schneider Electric’s ability to respond to increasingly diverse customer requirements through more flexible production processes and closer integration between engineering, manufacturing, and customer services.
While Phase I has entered operation, construction of Phase II of the Xiamen Torch Electric Power and Electrical Industrial Park officially commenced on October 28.
According to Schneider Electric management, the next phase will extend manufacturing capabilities into key production processes and core components, further strengthening the company's medium voltage equipment manufacturing footprint in China.
The expansion is expected to involve additional investment in critical manufacturing equipment and production capabilities, including vacuum interrupters and medium voltage circuit breakers.
These components are important elements of medium voltage switching and protection systems. Strengthening their local manufacturing capabilities can help improve supply chain coordination and support more integrated production operations.
The second-phase development also reflects Schneider Electric's continued commitment to the Xiamen industrial ecosystem, where the company has maintained manufacturing operations since 2005.
Beyond expanding production capacity, the Xiamen Xiang’an Industrial Park is designed to integrate research and development, manufacturing, sales, and technical services.
Its R&D center and smart manufacturing facilities are intended to improve coordination between product engineering, production planning, quality management, and customer requirements.
The service training center, which began operating in September 2026, provides technical training, practical skills development, professional certification, and support for industry partners.
This integrated approach is particularly relevant to the industrial electrical equipment sector, where equipment selection, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and lifecycle management all contribute to long-term system performance.
The facility also promotes cooperation with local suppliers, research institutions, and industrial partners, supporting the development of regional manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise.
Sustainability is another important consideration in the development of the new industrial park.
The facility incorporates digital energy management, rooftop photovoltaic systems, energy storage, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Its design targets the LEED New Construction (LEED NC) Platinum standard, integrating energy efficiency and environmental considerations into factory operations.
Schneider Electric entered the Chinese market in 1987, and China has since become its second-largest global market, an important supply chain base, and one of its four major R&D hubs.
The company's presence in Xiamen dates back to 2005. The new industrial park further strengthens this long-term investment and supports its strategy of connecting local innovation, advanced manufacturing, and global market demand.
Products manufactured at the Xiamen facility are expected to serve both the Chinese market and international customers, including markets in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the Americas and Australia.
The commissioning of Schneider Electric’s Xiamen Xiang’an Industrial Park highlights the growing importance of intelligent manufacturing in the global electrical equipment industry.
For medium voltage equipment manufacturers, the ability to combine flexible production, automated inspection, digital manufacturing systems, and reliable component supply is becoming increasingly important.
As power distribution requirements evolve alongside renewable energy development, data center expansion, and industrial digitalization, advanced manufacturing facilities will play an important role in supporting the next generation of electrical infrastructure.
The Xiamen project is not simply an expansion of manufacturing space. It represents a broader investment in integrated medium voltage equipment production, local engineering capabilities, and global supply chain development.
With Phase I now operational and Phase II underway, Xiamen is set to play an increasingly important role in Schneider Electric’s global medium voltage manufacturing network.
