Tokyo, Japan – [Date] – Yokogawa Electric Corporation has announced an increase in its strategic investment in Semantum Oy, a Finland-based company specializing in digital solutions for industrial plant data modeling, simulation, optimization, and engineering automation. With this additional investment, Semantum will become an affiliated company within the Yokogawa Group.
Yokogawa first invested in Semantum in 2019, and the two companies jointly developed the OpreX™ Data Model Broker, part of Yokogawa’s OpreX Connected Intelligence product line. The system applies ontology-based AI technology to automatically verify data consistency across different plant designs and instrumentation systems, enabling seamless cross-system data interoperability.
The new investment aims to leverage Semantum’s software development expertise to enhance Yokogawa’s digital twin and semantic data modeling capabilities, thereby expanding its digital transformation offerings. At the same time, Semantum will accelerate its global market expansion and explore new business opportunities in the fast-growing digitalization and system simulation markets. This move represents a strategic initiative by Yokogawa to strengthen its digital business portfolio through partnerships and strategic investments.
