According to the China National Intellectual Property Administration, ABB Switzerland Ltd. has filed a patent titled “Electrical Switch” (Publication No. CN121964408A), with an application date of October 2025.
The patent discloses an innovative electrical switch design featuring a mechanism to extend and control the electrical arc during switching events, improving safety and operational reliability.
Key Technical Features:
Switch Components: Includes a frame, first stationary contact, rotating contact, and multiple arc extinguishing components.
Guided Arc System: Each arc extinguishing component is equipped with a guide protrusion system designed to direct the arc along a tortuous path during switch-off events.
Arc Extension: The arc advances in a lateral direction parallel to the rotating contact’s axis, effectively lengthening the arc within the multiple arc extinguishing components.
Optimized Design: The guide protrusions extend from each arc extinguisher towards adjacent components, providing the shortest path for the arc between extinguishers, ensuring controlled dissipation.
