Zhuhai, China – June 11, 2026 – Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, has officially launched its next-generation smart rail transit power distribution solution featuring solid-state technology. The announcement was made during the “Next Stop, Intelligent Future – 2026 Rail Industry Seminar and Intelligent Circuit Breaker Launch Event,” marking a significant step toward the digital transformation of rail transit electrical systems.

The new solution introduces solid-state circuit breaker technology into rail applications, enabling a shift from traditional mechanical protection systems to a microsecond-level, data-driven “solid-state era.” This innovation is designed to support the development of smart urban rail systems by improving safety, efficiency, and system intelligence.

Accelerating Smart and Low-Carbon Transformation in Rail Transit

During the event, Schneider Electric emphasized that China’s urban rail transit sector is undergoing a strategic transition from large-scale expansion to high-quality development focused on operational safety, cost efficiency, and carbon reduction. Under the guidance of China’s Smart Urban Rail Development Framework, the industry is increasingly adopting intelligent operations, unmanned systems, and lightweight design concepts.

Traditional mechanical circuit breakers have long provided reliable protection for rail systems. However, as digitalization and system integration deepen, limitations in real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and system integration have become more apparent. These challenges are driving demand for next-generation intelligent power distribution technologies.

Solid-State Technology Enabling a New Generation of Protection Systems

Leveraging solid-state semiconductor technology, Schneider Electric has adapted high-reliability designs—already widely used in aerospace and marine industries—to meet the demanding operating conditions of rail transit systems.

The newly launched intelligent circuit breaker delivers a breaking capacity of up to 50kA and introduces microsecond-level, arc-free interruption. This eliminates arc-related safety risks commonly associated with DC circuit breakers and significantly improves system protection speed and reliability.

Key advantages of the solution include:

1. Microsecond Arc-Free Interruption and Extended Lifespan
Based on solid-state semiconductor switching, the system achieves fault interruption in less than 1 millisecond, effectively preventing short-circuit damage before it escalates. With no mechanical wear, the device offers a service life of up to one million switching cycles, making it highly suitable for high-vibration rail environments. This reduces maintenance frequency and lowers lifecycle operating costs.

2. Full Electrical Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance Capabilities
The system supports real-time monitoring of key electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power. It also features fault waveform recording before and after abnormal events, enabling precise fault diagnosis and traceability. Additionally, a pre-closure circuit inspection function analyzes load conditions before each operation, reducing inrush current impacts and improving power stability.

3. High Integration and System Simplification for Lightweight Train Design
Schneider Electric has integrated protection, remote control, signaling, and measurement functions into a compact 25 mm module, reducing overall size by up to 44.4% compared to conventional solutions. The design includes an integrated busbar on the input side and a native Ethernet interface for direct connection to Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS), simplifying wiring complexity and improving system integration reliability.

The solution also supports user-defined current settings, enabling flexible configuration based on application requirements and optimizing spare parts and procurement management.

Driving the Future of Digital Rail Infrastructure

With this launch, Schneider Electric aims to accelerate the transformation of rail transit electrical infrastructure toward smarter, safer, and more integrated systems. By combining solid-state switching technology with digital monitoring capabilities, the company is helping build a new foundation for intelligent urban rail development.

The solution is expected to play a key role in advancing predictive maintenance, system efficiency, and operational safety in next-generation rail transit networks.
